Teeth Friendly Recipes to Ring in the Holidays

At Meadows Dental Care, our mission is to help you achieve a healthy, beautiful smile that lasts a lifetime – and that means more than just cleaning your teeth twice a year! We also want to help you navigate life in a way that’s healthy for your teeth, and that’s particularly important during the holidays. The sweets, foods, and desserts we love to enjoy this time of year can be dangerous for teeth, so to help you enjoy the season without harming your teeth, here are a few holiday recipes you can enjoy without worrying about dental health.

Mashed Sweet Potatoes

We all love mashed potatoes, and this recipe puts a colorful spin on a holiday favorite – and it’s tooth friendly!

Ingredients

  • 6 sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup maple syrup

Directions

First, bring a large pot of salted water up to a rolling boil. Once there, throw in the potatoes and cook them for 20 to 30 minutes, or until they’re tender. Drain the potatoes and throw them into a mixing bowl, then using an electric mixer to mash everything together, slowly add in the milk until you get the right consistency. Once there, add the butter and maple syrup to taste, serve, and enjoy!

No-Bake Baked Apples

While apple pie may be as American as it gets, it’s also a nightmare for teeth – but this easy baked apples recipe provides a gooey, delicious alternative that won’t eat away at teeth.

Ingredients

  • 1 large apple
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cornstarch

Directions

This one couldn’t be any easier. Just cut your apple into slices, throw all ingredients into a microwave-safe dish, and cover to form a tight seal. Microwave for 2 minutes, serve, and enjoy!

Peach Frozen Yogurt

Ice cream is another holiday favorite that poses a danger to teeth, but with this peach frozen yogurt recipe, you can create a delicious, tooth friendly alternative in no time!

Ingredients

  • 16 oz bag of frozen peaches
  • 1 qt of plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 to 3 tbsp of honey
  • Juice of 1/2 a small lemon

Directions

This one is easy enough to make between dinner and dessert. Just throw everything into a blender or food processor, blend until smooth and creamy, and dig in!
