Dental Tips For Adults

Oral hygiene is a key component of overall health! In recent years, we have found that gum disease and other dental issues have been linked to health problems, including stroke and coronary artery disease. There are many things that you can do to maintain good dental health. One of the most important is keeping up with your regular dental visits – at least twice a year – to have a thorough cleaning of your teeth and to take preventative measures against things like cavities and gingivitis.

Additionally, other helpful tips to maintaining your oral health at home include:

  • Brushing your teeth at least three times a day.
  • Flossing once a day.
  • Maintaining a well-balanced, healthy diet.
  • Avoid smoking and the use of smokeless tobacco products.

Using these preventative steps will help you prevent some of the common problems, such as cavities, gingivitis, gum disease, oral cancer, and more. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our office.

Dental Tips For Children

It is particularly important to start healthy dental care with your children when they are young; by doing so you are reducing the risk of long-term problems and creating a habit of oral hygiene with your child. According to recent research, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease for children. In order to prevent these problems, here are some tips on oral care for children:

  • Using a wet cloth, gently clean infant’s gums after feeding to stimulate the gum tissue and remove excess food
  • Gently brushing erupted baby teeth with a soft-bristled tooth brush and a pea sized amount of toothpaste
  • Teach your children about proper brushing and flossing techniques
  • Make regular appointments with your dentist to prevent and treat problems and to reduce anxieties about dental visits
  • Check to see if your communities water supply has fluoride or ask your dentist about supplement options
  • Ask your hygienist or dentist about sealant applications to protect your child’s teeth-chewing surfaces
